Question jigs and lights at night

I'm confused as to how this is done! Are you casting and counting down then slow retrieve, or under a slip bobber and pull stop pull, or steady pull under bobber, or stationary under bobber, or tightlined or or or
do most tip with nibbles and or minnows
how many rods do you have out at once

I do fished jigs some at night,I usually just dropped them straight to the dept of fish and start raising them up this would be what we called tightlining. Others may do it different but this is the way I do them. Also at night fishing,I don't leave minnows at the bait shop.:D

    Wink I haven't done it, much ....

    ... but, when I did :

I basically cast to the shadowed areas, on the outside of the light's influence ... single jig, cast & slow retrieve, no float/nibble/minner added.

    You could try Vertical Casting

You could also try what some other states members do : put a jig on the bottom, tie a hook up the line (for a minner), and tightline with it. They've reported success with this rigging, and some even claim to catch the bigger fish on the jig.

    ... cp

You can catch em' on jigs like John said but I agree I wouldn't leave the minners at the bait shop. You are catching fish on those lights that are just opening thier mouth and shad are basically swimming in, they dont have to work hard to get a meal. I wanna try to net some shad from the lights this year and see if they work better than tuffy minnows, i know they dont stay alive well but I would think a nice lively 3 inch shad would be death dropped down over some big crappie.
