I can't help you much on Cumberland ... but, as far as Green River Lake --- you might want to join us at the Get Together (April 10th) and meet some of the other members. I'm sure you'll get a ear full of opinions, ideas, methods, strategies, fishing stories (& other general BS :p ) ... that should give you plenty of options to consider. And, you'd probably get to see alot of different boat setups, and a warehouse of fishing equipment to check out :p
Plus, you might even get a plate full of fresh Crappie to sample ... but, I warn you --- it's gonna taste so good, it'll make you a Crappie fishing fanatic :D

Otherwise, I suggest you keep coming back to this thread, as I'm sure you'll get some more replies to consider.

I'm old school :p in how I approach Crappie fishing. Not so much that I go & sit on a spot & drown minnows all day ... but, more towards fishing the way I enjoy fishing (which is casting jigs), rather than having 27 different options & having to decide which one will work at that time. If I catch fish, great .... if I don't, fine - I still had a good time, & I probably learned something new about wherever I was Now, that's not to say that I won't use other methods, if I'm not successful with my jig casting .... I most certainly will :D -- I just "prefer" being successful with my favorite fishing method

But .... please file a report when you get home. We'd be very interested in how you did, and what the conditions were. With respect to David ... we won't ask "where" you fished ... but, it would be nice to know "how" you fished (method) and how deep you fished.

    And... welcome to Crappie.com !!

If I were just starting, I'd go to Walmart and buy a couple ultralights, slip bobbers, a few jig heads, weights, swivels etc. Go buy some minnows and check the posts to see how deep people are catching crappie around the area. Find some brush and tree tops and drop your minnows by them. Vary your depth until you find them. They will almost always take a minnow! Most of all have fun with it.
