CKing, May have to find a sawmill and get some of the slabs and rip them with a tablesaw or skilsaw. Also a pallet factory or refurbisher might have some of the old top slats. Hope this helps.

Wanting to try and drive some stakebeds but having a hard time finding the stakes. Wondering if anyone new where one could get a bunch of scrap lumber for this project. Preferably 1x1 or similar in size. Hoping to get this for free or relatively cheap. I'm in Louisville so if anyone knows shoot me a pm. Would be happy to share gps coordinates with anyone who could help out. Thanks

I wouldn't worry bout the size of the scrap. Once you get a bunch do like buffalo13 said and set a table saw to cut 1 inch sections and you can get a lot of stakes out of one long board. Anything 2x__ will work. I used 2x8s and old barn siding(which was HARD OAK so beware) to make limbs for crappie condos. Hope you can find ya some scrap. If you lived close to me I could give ya all you wanted.
Go out in the county and look for tobacco barns 95% are not growing anymore and the sticks they used for haning the tobacco in the barns are what you need!

Thanks for the replies guys. I've got a table saw and some scrap wood at the house so I guess that's a start. Yeah to bad I don't live closer to you EKY. I've been making bamboo condos so maybe I'll just continue with that venture but i love the thought of a little diversity of fishin holes.
I go to a local lumber yard and they will give me old pallets and the slats they use to put between the loads of lumber than I nail them on the side an middle makes a good bed and I don't have to drive stakes put a concrete block in the center and drop straight down
I've read in other posts that some pick up 1x2's from cabinet shops. You probally have a few around you. Woudn't hurt to check. I picked up a lot of cypress material from a small sawmill. They just burn it. Was happy to get rid of the scrap.
