A buddy and I went to Rough Saturday and nearly got skunked. The wind was a major problem, and we only boated one keeper crappie that we later released. I caught a small catfish and several small bass as well. We were fishing Tules creek.
Here is my buddys crappie:
Sunday, another friend and I decided to try little clifty creek on Rough River, and the wind cooperated a little better Sunday morning. All of our fish were caught around standing timber in about 12 FOW. We were fishing minnows around 6-8 feet deep. The water temp was 67.9 degrees in most places. It was a great day to be on the water. The fishing was still slow, but enjoyable. We probably boated 25 or so crappie, and had 8 keepers. we fished from 7:30 until 1pm.
Here are the keepers before we broke out the fillet knives

You can't finish what you don't start
I was down Sunday as well and fished from Tules Creek to Axtel. Caught 30+ but only had 14 keepers. Whole lot of 8 1/2" fish. All but 5 or so caught on black/chartreuse sliders anywhere from 4-15' over brush and timber. Culled a lot before I found decent fish. Should be turning on real soon. Actually caught mostly black crappie which was weird because I primarily fish rough river and only catch white.

Fished Rough at Tules Creek, slow had 7 keepers. Caught alot of shorts. Most of mind came on lay downs. Where are all the brush piles???????
Sorry Xi, wasn't trying to out-do you. Just didn't want to start another post on the same topic. To be honest with you I only fished tules creek for about 10 min. and didn't even catch any fish there. They were all caught on the main lake.
I was just kiddin', I am glad to see you or anybody catch a good mess.
Let me ask you a question about catching them on the main lake. How did you do it? Do you know where some good structure is or did you search for it? Also, what did you catch them on?
I am going again tomorrow, and I may try the main lake. I am not a very good crappie fisherman, but I am getting into it more and more.

Fished it the same way I do in the creeks. Watch the depth finder for brush and dropped a line straight down. If I caught fish I'd through out a marker buoy and try all around it. I fished a lot of laydowns but a lot of fish came from brush piles. I have a humminbird 997 that has helped me find a lot of stuff but I've still got so much to learn on that thing. I rarely use minnows and more often than not it's a Charlie brewer slider in whatever color they seem to want. The other day it happened to be black/chartuese. Good luck
I am not good at finding brushpiles at all. I have a garmin 430c fishfinder that seems to be a good one. I need to get some marker buoys though.
