Bassky,
I havent been after crappie on the Ohio river since early summer, but have been bass fishing there a few times since. My friend went saturday morning bass fishing and said the main river was stained to muddy and up a bit with some current around maysville, and that the bite was VERY slow. As for the tribs, they are probbly much clearer and up a bit, but Id say universally the river will prob be pretty slow for big slabs until the shad start flocking into the tributaries when fall wheather begins to cool the water and push em' shallow into the creeks. Usually september on into november should be ur best bet for some GOOD action in the creeks. Hope this helps, have u thought about kincaid(heard of som good fish comin out of there recently) or any of the smaller lakes around ur area. Dog days can be tough on the OHIO for sure, but theyre there and they gotta eat!! lol Hope this helps a little.
PS: come september i'm gonna be MIA from Cave Run and be a River rat til' the fall bite is over, cuz those river crappie are BIG
maybe i can help more then
