Went out to Bennington (Ottawa State Fishing Lake) to troll for saugeye. That didn't pan out so I thought "Hey, I've got my ultra light gear in here, I'm gonna anchor next to a brush pile and see if I can catch a crappie". Never really tried it before, so rigged up the UL ugly stick and threw in a jig. I also suck(ed) at vertical jigging, so I knew this might frustrate me more than anything.
To my surprise on the third drop THUMP crappie! Between my dad and I we hauled in about a dozen within 45 minutes. They were hitting on grubs, octopus grubs, tubes, pretty much anything and any color. And only lost about 5 jigs lol
Only problem was they were all dinks. Biggest one was about 6". At least now I'm motivated about finding some more brush piles and trying it again!
