A friend and I checked several state and county lake his morning, either ice to thin our lake open except around boat ramp. Last place we checked was fort scott lake, completely open and ramp ice free, so we went and got the boat and gave it a try. We caught several small crappie and white bass in 30-40 ft of water on stinger shads. I had one crappie that was pushing 11". It was pretty cold, water temp was 34*. It was cold enough my friend was planning on fishing tomorrow with me also, but decided he had enough for awhile this afternoon. That is a nice lake, only second time on it with limited success, need more trips and time on the water.
