Your report was very similar to my outing yesterday on Hillsdale. I hadn't been out crappie fishing since June 6th so yesterday was a trial run to see how long I could even tolerate the heat and see if I remembered or could catch a crappie. I went up the Little Bull at daylight and fished until 9:45 catching a total of 12 with only 3 legals though one was a nice 14 incher. I was surprised that the water clarity was a murky as it was above the bridge. As usual NOAA's tabular forecast was off were it had indicated the wind wouldn't be getting near 10 mph until afternoon. I came down below the bridge to fish more sheltered and clearer water and ended up using up most of my minnows catching dinks around 10 ft down around standing timber and left the lake around 11 am with a total catch count of 30 and no more legals. I wasn't keeping so all in all I chalked it up as an OK fishing outing. With my low fishing standards for enjoyment I just might be thinking about some more short trips in this heat even though getting up at 4 am to be on the water at daylight is certainly becoming a more daunting hurdle now.

Jim, I'm glad you got out and did catch some fish. I just hope with this heat that it doesn't become dip-net only around here.

Thanks for the reports. I'm going to give HD a shot friday evening. I'm taking one of my co-workers who hasn't fished in quite a while. Good to know there is a little action even if the fish are running small. Did you guys fish any main lake brush piles? Sounds like it was mostly fishing standing timber. Any luck on jigs or all minnows?

No main lake brush piles for me. It was all minnows on standing timber. I probably should have tried hanging a Kentucky rig but only used a single small jig and a minnow - sometimes maybe two or three minnows on the single jig just to get the good minnow count used up before the heat and wind forced me off the lake.
