Hey guys im new to the site and new to manhattan ks. anybody fish tuttle creek? how is it. any other good spots for a kayak fisherman? how about perry lake?

I wouldn't recommend putting a kayak on perry. There are a lot of big boats on the main channel, u could maybe if u could put in up by old town

Droptinejoe does kayak fishing, pm him and he can help out. GSL jumps out in my mind as a close place to put the kayak in that has some decent fishing, but I would imagine most of the state lakes would be good for this type of fishing.

Ahoy, I live in Manhattan and fish it nearly every other day. Also plan trips to surrounding lakes with a good friend of mine. I have a 9ft 2-man bass boat that we use on Tuttle, Milford, Council Grove, etc.. no problem. Just do some map reading on where you are wanting to fish so you can launch around that area. I fish mainly during the week as to try and avoid the pleasure boaters and or wake makers. Some of the state fishing lakes can be good, but usually when word gets out it gets hammered pretty quickly.. especially for the crappie.
I'd save the gas money for GSL if you are looking for crappie. They are the size of baseballs if not smaller. The saugeye bite can be good there sometimes, have caught a few decent ones there.
Try and find lakes that have poor boat ramp access and or are off the beaten path. You'll have much better luck than the lakes sitting right next to a highway or city in my opinion and you won't be fighting crowds or the expensive bass boat wake makers.
EDIT: Tuttle was pretty good this year for crappie. We punished the Marina pretty hard this spring. There are a few coves holding some crappie/white bass. River pond is pretty hit and miss it seems and the crappie crowd is tight lipped.

The Riverpond is a great small-boat lake. It's no-wake, but you will have to wait until Stampede is over to get there. I have never figured out how to catch crappie consistently there, but I'm not that great of a fisherman...
If I had a kayak, and I needed to catch a crappie or starve.... I would probably go to Council Grove City Lake or Alma City Lake. I've always wanted to try one of the Herington lakes, but I always end up fishing closer to home to save the windshield time and get more fishing. Actually, I would go to Wabaunsee, but it will cost you $44.00 to put your kayak on the lake which is a bit stiff if you don't intend to go there a LOT.
I'm thinking about selling the Good Ol' Hooker. A 16' Semi-v with a 15hp Johnson. It's an older boat, but it is well trained to catch fish at the smaller lakes around Manhattan.
