Default Tic Tic Tug is in full swing at HD 7/4

Fished 18- 23 fow. Fish were hitting minnows and minnow tipped chartreuse jigs 8' down. Fish were only hanging on hedge and cedars...No bites on the bigger trees.
Had to run for more minners when the 1st 3 doz. ran out. 1 at 12.5 ..2 at 12 smallest fish kept was 10.5. Caught around 40.....kept five...
It is amazing how different the bite is between normal minner rig amd a minner tipped jig. Crappie just slam the jig and nibble on the normal presentation. Had a fun day

Sounds like you figured them out and caught a bunch of fish. Congrats.

Good work BA! I was out there Sun eve for a couple hours, but didn't fare nearly as well as you. Bite was slower and only managed 3 keepers - all out of a root ball in 6 fow. Couldn't put any pattern together. Fished minnows only, wish i would have tried the minnow tipped jig like you mentioned. Glad you got into them and thanks for the good report.

Anybody figure out WHY the crappie tic-tic, and what are some things you guys have tried when their ticking a jig? I've really downsized my jig to compensate, makes me think they're slurping. After all the hatch is still pretty small, and how much can a yoy shad weigh. I think they're trying to "pop" the shad, whites/wipers do the same thing. Kinda like watching a LMB suck a big jig-n-pig off the bottom, dinners generally easy to obtain this time of year, so a lot of effort isn't required. What do you think?

When we cleaned fish from clinton a couple weeks ago, probably 70% were stuffed with mayflies. It seemed that the smaller fish had more in there stomach then the big ones. But maybe the way they eat a mayfly is different then how they eat a minnow. So maybe the ticking is them trying to suck it in before they realize they need to open there mouth more.

Now your talking, maybe that's why they're suspended at the depth's they are. Pearls, baby your throwing us pearls. This is the the kinda stuff that makes this board GREAT! That kinda info will make us all better anglers. Those little 'cricket' frogs are very good bait too. It's an additional protein ( amino acid ) that fish crave, crawdads provide another for some species. They provide 60% digestability, but in the heat they can be fish dope, fish will flat crave frogs/dads. Thanks Labs, great answer!!!
