Default First few trips so far..

I have been fishing a handful of times already this year. All on these little Wichita ponds since the wife has been working and I did not have the time to drive anywhere. I am using the Beetle Spin ALOT. Different colors and sizes. I have caught alot of Bass and a few Sunfish but no Crappie.

I went to go buy minnows from Gander Mountain on Saturday night but they were sold out, lol. Come to find out most people who bought the minnows were not having any luck. I am not sure but I think it had alot to do with the drastic temperature change from Friday to Saturday, I am sure you guys would know more about the subject and clue me in .

This weekend I am going to make a trip out of town to either Wellington or Kingman. Which one would you guys suggest for someone fishinf from the shore?

I've been out of fishing for 10 years so at least I am catching something, and having fun!

Try a 1/16oz black jig head with a chartruse plastic body under a bobber down a foot. Cast along the banks out in 2ft of water. Reel back real slow,,,repeat,,,,repeat & twitch,,repeat,,,,move & Doh repeat!! To make this offering a little more pleasinThumbs Up to the crappies,,,, add a crappie nibble. I fished at the nature center on saturday for 2 hours and didn't get so much as a bump. Went another place outside the city for the same amount of time, same result. Fished minners on sunday, and they didn't do any good either, except for bass and some big bluegills.

Like Chatt said, try jigs under a bobber. Pink/white and black/chartreuse have been working for me lately depending on the spot. Don't be afraid of tryin' the PINK!

Man, I just do not think they like me. I tried minows and jigs. 1/8 and 1/16. Tried Black/green, white/red and chartreuse. I put them on a bobbber about 18 inches down, cast out and slowly retrieve. After trying different spots and variations I just get frustrated and throw a spinner on and catch bass. I think my biggest problem is these city ponds. I need to get the heck out of wichita. Im still going out on Saturday just not sure where to yet. Hopefully Gander Moutain does not run out of minnows. Maybe I am just mean to catch bass?

You might check the fishing forecast on the KDWP website. If you can't catch crappies with jigs or minnows, maybe the ponds you are fishing just don't have very many.

I have fished East Lake in Newton before. I was in a boat, but it looked like it had pretty decent bank access. It used to have a pretty good population of crappies.

Once you have some success with a technique, you will have more confidence and faith in it the next time. Good luck to ya.
