If I was staying at Wilson, there isn't a question about where I'd be fishing!! Maybe it's just the scenery but I love that lake. The fishing isn't bad either.

The wife has a class reunion in Wilson this coming weekend so we are staying at one of the cabins in Wilson State Park. Any reports from any of the Western Kansas lakes? Looking or walleye or crappie. We have 4 days back there so might as well try some of my old stomping areas!
Where are they biting fellas?

If you like knothead's baitshop on facebook it shows quite a bit of recent catches and reports for Wilson and I second Cbass's vote. And don't forget smallmouth and striperif you are into catching them that is!

It rained a good portion of the time but we managed to make it out Friday night and Sunday night. Caught plenty of white bass and white perch but no stripers or walleye. The lake was a ZOO! I used to fish that lake a couple times a week but WOW! The traffic was nasty as well as the manners of other boaters! Kind of glad I dont live back that way any longer after dealing with that mess!

Crappieslinger. We were out there all weekend as well. We ended up with a few walleye for the weekend and of course the white perch, and we did catch a few stripers. Been going out there for the last 20 years, and that was a calm weekend at Wilson! Barely any 'day boaters' at all. There were a few people on the lake Sunday afternoon, but nothing like it would have been if it were 90 and sunny all weekend. I'm sorry that you got a bad impression of the people out there, unfortunately a few bad ones will ruin it for everyone else. We love camping out there as the beaches are great, the water is clear, and the fishing is usually good. Great when the stripers start surfacing in July.

Oh I know it can be a lot worse out there.I fished that lake a dozen times a year for 15 years up until we moved from Hays to Eastern Kansas in 2002. The traffic I was talking about was up around Otoe and the Marina. It was a mess on the Otoe ramp Sunday afternoon. We were up by rocktown trying the walleye and had several boats come between us and the shore at about 1/4 throttle kicking up major wakes. We finally packed it up and went over around Lucas looking for the Stripers and it wasnt as bad over there but it was getting cloudy and cooler by then.
I used to love fishing Wilson but it seems to have turned in to a party lake in the last several years ( as have many other lakes actually)
I wish we could have found the walleye. We tried around the rocks in the Hell creek arm, up around Rocktown, and West of the West Minnooka Ramp on the flats. Just couldnt seem to find them. With the lake being 6 and a half feet low it made it hard to remember and find all of the spots we used to catch them. Its looking pretty rough with it being so low. Hopefully it fills back up soon.
I really wish we could get on the schooling Stripers back there again. We used to catch the snot out of them when they would surface. Man that was fun!![]()

I agree with you on all above. We camp at Otoe. That Ramp is one sided now and the dock beside is completely out of water. I'm glad it wasn't more crowded as that boat ramp would have been awful.
That cove is about half as big now that the rock right off Otoe point is about 6" below water. If anyone out there is new to the lake and getting ready to go, be on the look-out for the rock points. They're bad right now.
Headed that direction this afternoon it looks like. I'll report back with the damage.
Ended up with a 2 man limit of walleye, a crappie, some smallmouth, some whites, a channel cat, a carp, a striper, and a pile of white perch. Bite was a late one. Only had two walleye boated at sundown and caught #10 about midnight.
A crappie??? You should post a pic of the crappie!!! A crappie in Wilson lake!
