Surprise!

I hit up a small watershed close to my house that I had caught some nice gills and small bass in during the Summer on my fly rod. Hoping to ice some gills I drilled several holes looking for the deepest spot and was a little disappointed to discover the deepest water was only 4.5' deep. I went ahead and tipped my tiny Lindy tungsten Toad jig with a single red euro larvae and dropped it to the bottom banging it up and down to stir up some sediment and hopefully get the attention of some gills. After just about a minute a mark appeared 2' below the ice on my Showdown and I reeled my jig just above it when BAM my spring bobber bent downward with a bite, I set the hook and was very surprised to see an 8" crappie come up through the hole! This was repeated many times that morning... every time I would drill a new hole and catch the first fish, I would catch 2 or 3 more just as fast as I could get the jig back down!! I also used a 1/16oz gold Slender spoon tipped with red euro larvae (I forgot the wax worms at home) and caught several crappie and 2 small largemouth bass on it! I lost a bigger drag squealing LMB (estimated 3lb) when it came unbuttoned as I was pulling it through the hole...
All fish were released to fight another day!!
