Well I've been here for six weeks and I finally got the Lund in the water, I've been fishing a lot of smaller lakes with my yak and fly rod catching LMB's, gills, and greenies. I hit up Boyd Lake(my ice fishing crappie hot spot) and proceeded to scan the depths. I marked a large school of fish 20ft down in 34ftow and broke out the 2.5" chartreuse Gulp minnow, jigging just above the school I had a fish start coming up at my jig so I pulled it away (old trick I learned on the deep water crappie at Milford) and bam I got thumped!Setting the hook caused all hell to break loose as this big fish dove hard for the bottom and my Loomis with the 4lb line was struggling, I loosened up the drag and started to play this fish, knowing(read dreaming) that it was one of the 10lb+ walleye this lake is famous for or maybe even a monster rainbow I was really nervous for a bit...until I saw the 8lb channel cat coming into the net! Needless to say I was let down! lol After that I switched to the BG Babyshad and caught several whites before giving the lake up to the waterskiers.
I'm thinking of hitting up my old stomping grounds at Milford this Fall for some more deep water crappie action and maybe "Forkville" at the end of December for a little "Sac-a-lait" on ice!![]()
