Daughter wanted to go fishing today. We got all the chores done about 3 pm and dropped the little one off at my folks place. First pond is large and was muddy with moss around the edges. First fish came as I was helping her skip the jig across the top to avoid the moss. After that I tied on a popper for her and my brother threw a buzz bait. Its mighty fun for a 3 yr old to watch bass blow up a popper every cast. Caught several small bass, and we lost one that was at least 4 pounds. She had fun watching it jump, but I was letting her fight it and daddy messed up and set the drag a little tight. It made a run and it was more than the ultra light and 4lb test could handle.
Hit the pond across the road since it is our crappie pond next. The pond is crystal clear. In a different region you'd expect to see folks flyfishing for trout in it. We could see the bass come up and look at the popper before they'd hit it. Had fun doing that for awhile, then switched to a jig, but couldn't catch any crappie. Owner said this pond had a big die off last winter, but we are going to try it when the little one isn't with us. Ended up finishing with a pumpkinseed worm with a chartreuse tail and no weight. Caught a few doing that. By then we had been fishing about 90 minutes and my daughter was ready to go. All in all a productive day, and she loved watching the bass blow up the popper.
She insisted on being the camera girl today so the pictures aren't that great.
