Walley spawn

I fished in KS this past weekend and from my observation, the spawn is about 7-10 days out yet. Water temp was 40 and the weather and wind was BRUTAL! Ended up having to drift the last few hours on Sat due to running the batteries to the trolling motor dead before 1pm. Marked lots of fish in staging areas and managed to pick up 8 nice eyes between 16-23" and about 30 smallies. All these were caught in 25-40' on jigs and were pretty aggressive considering the weather. We had 2 females and 6 males and when we cleaned them, all the males milk sacks were still really firm and the females egg sacks were just starting to vessel up. I am not much into fishing dams at night during the spawn unless I can get them on jigs before dark but I would bet that they will be on the dams pretty good in about 10 days!

The walleye spawn is on across Kansas. The 'peak' of the spawn is still to come for most lakes, but fish are on the dams and spawning areas and actively spawning. Don't wait too long to get out there if you are wanting to fish the spawning period!

Looking for a little walleye advice. I told my boss I need a hour off earlier each day next week for "Mental Health Time". I plan to drag my boat to work and hit the water right afterward till dark.

I have a bunch of bandit 300's but I was wanting input on at least 3 more crank baits w/ color that I should add to a walleye trolling box.

The blk/silver Rapalas and the same color in a Rattlin Rogue( orange belly) have worked for me in the past.

I would sell the bandits and then buy some Bomber model A's for crappie. Next, I would buy some shallow running clown color or fire tiger storm jointed stick baits. But that's just me. Good luck!

Rapala Original Floaters, regular and jointed. I use Firetiger and I'll be damned if I can remember the other color! It's silver and white. I have some Smithwick Rattlin Rogues but have yet to try them out.

Has anyone tried firetiger shad raps for walleye around here?

I trolled Flicker Shads last Spring up at Glen Elder, did real good on crappie, whites and wipers. Never caught a walleye on them. Pearl White was my best color. I know alot of guys way up north swear by em! I have several different colors I want to try this spring. Green Ghost looks as good.

A dark green jointed shad rap and the copper crawdad color have been the goto baits for me,(fire crawdad and bleeding copper flash). I always use a 3 way rig with a beetle spin or something similar above my lure. Usually red head with white plastic. Good Luck!
