    Default Thumping Crows

Ok.....its not crappie fishing but its fun.

Today did not warm up a lot so I did not launch as the spot I wanted to fish was still iced in when I looked yesterday. I did see 1 boat on the lake though. So I decided to do some Crow Calling....

Started around 1300 and stayed out till around 1600. Used my Mossberg 835 with a reflex sight and XX full choke in it. Its a really good coyote hitter but I have found over the years that it also absolutely hammers crows with cheap walmart dove loads.....left overs from Dove season. I set up the WT MA-21 caller and used mainly dying crow and owl / crow fighting sounds. I ended up knocking down about 18 with most falling in the trees. I used an owl decoy and 3 pie plates with polyfoam swirled around to look like guts then spray painted red.....hey it cheap and it works.

That reflex sight makes it easy.

I saw those wipers you dragged in.....very nice and it looks like the cove opened up.

Yes all but the very back end was totally ice free! Those wipers saved the day, I couldn't even scratch up a dink crappie! I hit a couple of my better spots and saw fish but no takers!

Well I hope you feel better and we still have about 40 days to pound some crows. Whenever you are ready as I know several really good places to go and set up.
