I think I understand your point, unfortunately there are those who will twist it the other way. If we just sit back and idlely wait and watch, this will all be in vain. These people are heroes and this gunman is the epitome of cowardliness. There is no quick fix for this, only prayer. LORD, save us from ourselves.
