That is very rare! Twice in the last two weeks I have seen armadillos that were hit and laying on the side of the road between Ft Riley and Manhattan...

Is it the drought that's doing this or what? I went west this morning to go fishing (if you can believe that), my youngest son, my oldest son's dog and I. We left in the dark and arrived at the lake during the twilight hours. I somehow managed to avoid hitting any deer, as a matter of fact, we didn't even see any deer, alive or dead on...... I-70. Maybe I missed seeing anything while we were in that good ole father/son conversation. You see, my youngest son rarely wants to go fishing, however I'm always eager when he does finally ask. Where's this one going, back on track. About lunch time, which neither my son or I miss very often we decided to go home. Since Kanop is extremely low, all or part of those skiers/jetski's are now over at.... Wilson. Yeah!!! Some walleye chop !!! Not, it just helped us in our decision. So, on the road home today (I-70) I saw some roadkills that I just don't recall ever seeing, I mean literally never. There were 2 different places miles apart from each other. Guess what I saw, beavers. Roadkill beavers, I just can't recall ever seeing those critters smeared on the roadway, it still baffles me. Maybe you've seen this before, but not I. Anybody else have any interesting stories on highway hunting they could share. Ever seen this before? I'm intrigued, tell me a good one. Thumbs Up

"I envy not him that eats better meat than I do; nor him that is richer, or that wears better clothes than I do; I envy him, and him only, that catches more fish than I do."

doc might give them beavers an aUTOPSY SEE IF THERE IS ANY LEAD IN THEM IN YEARS PAST HAVE PUT CRAPPIE BEDS IN AND GO BACK AND CHECK THEM OUT no bed there just some pointed sticks floatin around ??? would have liked to make road kill out of them just could not caTCH EM
I saw aPorcupine dead on the side of 69 highway a few weeks ago, Did not even know we had them in Kansas.
i think its probably the time of year where the young of the year are forced to go find their own home range. I have seen beavers crossing roads before around here just not often.
I have seen some real bruisers hit near creeks in the past. I imagine they would do major damage to the underside of a car. A beaver is definitely a stocky critter. I wouldn't want to be driving a car with one rolling around underneath.
I hit a bobcat this Spring. Biggest one I've ever seen, and spotted really pretty too. I briefly thought about skinning it, but I had too much work to do at the farm that day.
I am just pullin' your leg.:D
Earlier this spring while driving east on I-70 about 5 miles east of Lawrence I thought a turkey was on the hwy, but as I got closer to it I realized it was a peacock. Luckily it flew off the road when I was about 150 ft from it. I would think that big of a bird could cause some real damage to your car. Someones pet I guess.
Hey Joe, a few years back in your area a guy hit an elk, bet he quit drinking after that. But your armadillos, that's as far north as I've heard. I saw one on I-135 at McPherson last fall. I hear if you pop their shell "inside out" and let them dry, they make good boat seats. That's what a guy in Texas does with them.
GreenCarpLover, that my friend is indeed rare
Capt Dan, the newspapers had a story about that, I've seen what turkeys do to cars, trucks, and semi's and they do indeed cause a lot of damage. On my way to Kanop some years back a lady hit one in front of me in her car. Although it didn't go through her windshield, it sure left in caved in and the post between the windshield and passenger window was damaged as well. She did a great job of stopping and was visibly shaking when I approached her. When I turned back after confronting her to look for the turkey, it was gone. One tough, heavy duty bird.
drakewoodie and Fish Taxi, you're both right. The 1st one I didn't really pay much attention, but the 2nd I noticed what I thought was his home was drying up and I'm guessing it was moving to a new home. Both of them were large, by that I mean like Lab size almost. Chris, I'd wager you're right about undercarriage damage, it looked like both of them bled out close to where they were hit. They're not on my bucket list of things to for sure.
Evidently there's some things to avoid other than deer, LORD knows being a deer magnet is enough for me. Thanks for sharing! Anybody else got something unique?

never seen an armadillo big enough for a boat seat for some but you did say texas
