HELP.....Livewell Pump

Hey I'm sure that some of you have had to replace a livewell pump a time or two. I was looking at some livewell pumps on cabelas and can't tell if the port on the bottom will turn. I have 90 degree pump with the suction going to the back of the boat and the discharge going to the port side of the boat. The on that I see on cabelas has the suction coming in and the discharge going 180 degrees straight away from the suction.

If your pump just burned out (the pump housing or connections are not cracked) you may be able to just replace the pump cartridge. My pumps have a little lever that you pull away from the housing and you twist the top is the pump and the pump cartridge comes out. Don't know what type of pump you have but you might check and see. Last time I bought one it was about 20-25 bucks. Is it a Johnson/Mayfair pump?

If you have to relplace the entire pump, you should check to see how your valves/levers that control your fill/empty/drain functions. The picture posted previously looks like a flow-right valve on the intake side of the pump and then a hose to the through hull connection. Just make if you have valves that you pay attention to their orientation before you remove them

drakewoodie, from all that I have messed with, the bottom intake and discharge do not change as that is part of the housing that is mounted to the boat. However, if you have one new enough you should be able to pull the "cartridge" out of the "housing" and leave all of your hoses connected to the housing and just replace the cartridge. The cartridge is not all that expensive at bass pro or cabelas.
There should be a couple of tabs that hold the cartridge in and once you rotate those out of the way you just pull the cartridge out of the housing and unplug the wires, hook the new wires up and put the new cartridge back in the housing and you are all done.

Alright well I guess I will give the Johnson pump company a call on Monday and ask them about their pump I didn't see anything that said anything about being able to turn it. The pump that I removed was a attwood and it was probably the original pump that came with it in 1989. The top of the motor housing was disformed due to it over heating.
