what is a good speed for trolling for wipers and walleye. Never really trolled being i have always owned a bass boat, but built a trolling bar for the back the doesnt require me to drill holes in my boat. It just bolts onto the jack plate so i can easily remove when not in use. So i figured i would go out and try sometime this weekend

Want to build me one?? LOL I am definitely no pro here but Kendall Strutt (who is a pro) did a seminar up at Waconda Boats this Spring that was very informative. He mainly slow trolls bottom bouncers with spinners or slow death rigs. If I remember correctly he always started out trolling around 1 mile an hour using his trolling motor and then experimented from there. I suppose your plate would allow you to run that slow with your big motor. If you are trolling cranks I would guess somewhere between 1 and 3 miles an hour, just depends on the day. I've read the speed doesn't vary the depth so much with the cranks but it does make a big difference on the action you get from them. Just my two cents worth and keep in mind, I'm relatively new at this, I'm sure others will chime in with much better info. Good Luck.

we troll around 2-3mph with the big motor or 1.5 with the TM for white bass with cranks around here--usually load up.

My son fishes almost exclusively live bait and if down lining he's trolling around .2-.4 mph. Pulling planers it's around .8-.9 mph.

so it sounds like i should try trolling with my bow trolling motor being my boat only slows to 2.5 with the outboard. Well ill give that a try... Kinda glad to hear that being i do have the terrova with i-pilot. And i can stay at the back while trolling instead of at the wheel. Thanks

Let the fish tell you how they like it slow trolling works spinners & slow death .4 to 1.3 mph. Cranks 1.5 always works best but there are times when they like it buzzing at faster switch up youll find what turns them on.

We have been using a 3 wire crappie rig have a single wire for places that will not allow more than one bait.We find a school of shad or bait with our fish locater or graph get up wind or up current on the rivers.Drop the bait down under the boat into the school try to keep just above the school let the wind drift us through the school or deep hole if we get bit do it again make another drift.We started doing this targeting the hybrid stripers in our lake.We have been catching walleye,crappie,Bass.Some friends just took them to canada (border waters) says they have worked great.Can get away with fishing smaller baites than we could before.Great tool not a troller but bet this would be a great tool for slow trolling!!!!
