I just spent last week at Kanopolis. It's difficult not to be where all the other boats are at. Its a small lake and on weekdays, the parking lot gets pretty full. It seems everyone is catching their limits just going to the flats. This is where you'll see the largest congregation of boats. I elected to fish the dam, north side shore line towards the north. My favorite depth was 8'-10' using jigs and crawlers. I prefer to drift or slow troll if there is no wind. I would invest in a quality drift sock if you dont already have one. This definitely slows the boat down on those windy days. It seems we didnt have to weed through so many little ones to get a keeper is why I elected to fish elsewhere. If you just want alot of action and you'll eventually get your limit throughout the day, just fish the flats. Bring a lot of worms. Its safe to say, you'll go through 4 dozen crawlers when cutting them in half tipped on a jig. We did catch some crappie in about 10-11' of water on along the dam. Most were females with eggs still in them. The carp were spawning last week so maybe crappie will move in there after they're done. Worth checking especailly once you get to your limit. Good luck!

thanks for the advice ,thankfully i have 3 different size socks and i will try the dam area just so i won't have to be in peoples way . unless its just too slow

Depending on the wind, was where we concentrated our efforts. We tend to fish the half that had the most wind. My boat partner doesnt like trolling but there were a lot of different species being caught trolling 10'-11' of water catching walleye, saugeye, whites, wipers, crappie and even some channel cats. We caught them drifting as well but we just stayed in certain key areas while they trolled along the dam and around Loders point and the north shore line.

My buddy is heading out there tomorrow. If anything has changed, I'll let you know. The bite has been going on for 5 weeks now. Our biggest fish was only 19.5. Last year, it was 24 and the year before that was 26. not the trend I like seeing but they have a lot of different classes in that lake. We caught them anywhere from 8" to 19.5"

made a day trip to coffee county , caught 10 or so walleye ,all were below the 21" limit. bummer
