    Default Clay shooting

I am interested in getting into shooting clays. Dont know much about it other than when we go out in shoot from a spring loaded trap thrower in a pasture.

Do any of you folks have suggestions on where to go in Eastern Kansas? I am thinking of contacting some ranges in the Topeka area to see what they offer. We like to shoot handguns and high power rifles as well.

I have not heard good or bad about Capital City Gun Club, does anyone have any input on this range?

As most of you know, I use a wheelchair so access is important for me. The Bullet Hole in Overland Park is a mother for me to get into so I dont shoot there often.

Any of you shooters have suggestions?

If you've never tried sporting clays, you should at least once. It is a lot of fun if you like to shoot shotguns. It will remind you a lot of the pasture shooting you did, except that they throw the clays at every conceivable angle and even roll some on the ground. It's a blast.

Check out Ravenwood and Cokeleys, both near Topeka. I haven't been to Ravenwood in years, but the main difference used to be that Ravenwood is a bit more expensive, but they have kids that run the throwers and you say 'pull'. Cokeley's is cheaper and members of your group take turns running the throwers yourselves (which isn't a big deal because you are just pushing a button). I don't know how mobile you are in your chair, but at both places you will have to cover some distance going from stand to stand. If I remember correctly, both places have gravel paths that are fairly well maintained.

If there was a sporting clays course in Manhattan, I would definitely do it regularly because it is a lot of fun... Way more fun than trap.

    Good luck to you.
I am just pullin' your leg.:D

Not sure what part of eastern Kansas you hale from...but Powder Creek in Lenexa has everything you want in shotgun sports. Used to shoot alot of skeet there before I started chasing slabs

Thanks for all of your replies. I am still looking into this. We went out last weekend and shot with a spring loaded thrower as well as a hand thrower and shot 3 1/2 cases of clays and well over 5 boxes of shells apiece. It was a blast!! (at least until the next morning when the shoulder pain made its presence known!) I need to get back into shooting my shotguns. Used to do it a lot when I lived around Hays, we would always go dove and pheasant hunting but here in Eastern Kansas there is not much for dove and pheasant hunting.

I am not sure what you mean about registering my gun but if this is the case I will never spend a dime at this place! My guns are just that, my guns. I wont be registering them with anyone! To many regulations as it is in my opinion.

Thanks for all of your help!

The army doesn't like civilians traipsing onto the place with weapons they don't know about...can't blame them really

It's a hell of a thing when the Army is afraid of the people they are employed to protect.
