What is the best way to catch spawning white bass?
-
White bass hold up in the river's riffles / eddies above the lake. White bass feed on a slow moving jig bumping along the bottom down stream. Casting up stream with a slow retrieve maintaining bottom contact is MONEY. Target the edge of the current / eddies. The tighter the eddies - the better. Don't over look small eddies. They may only hold a few fish - then you may have to hit the next one. Tube jigs, feather jigs, twirle tail plastics are commonly used.
IMHO all one needs is solid white twirle tail jigs in 3" and 1.5" and solid charteuse twirle tail jigs in 3" and 1.5". Couple these with 1/8th ounce and 1/16th ounce pink or chartreuse jig heads. Add a bobber or 2 - sometimes they like it slowed down with a bobber. 6- 8 pound line on a light or ultralight pole of choice. You're now armed and dangerous.
