Ducks

Anybody know of huntable numbers of mallards still in this area? I have good equipped 20 ft river john if anybody has any info let's go

We've mostly just been seeing Canadas here. I'm sure there are still some ducks on the Kansas river.

After driving back to Manhattan from Dallas on Saturday, I am fairly confident in saying that southern Oklahoma is where the mallards are. The fields were black with 'em! My trigger finger was twitching for sure.

Our split hit yesterday. We are closed for a couple of weeks. If only the where some places to fish...

Sorry next weekend is the cut off. Still a lot of ducks if you can find open water or a corn field they are using. I am thinking of hitting my field outside of gardner tonight to see what is there. I will let you know what I see.

Are you hunting the fields right south of gardner off of moonlight??
I saw a setup there last yr when I 1st moved to town. would LaCyne be worth checking out?? Hope you shoot some let me know

Didn't make it out this evening. Had to work but I hunt just west of town in the corn fields. LaCyne might not be bad if you have a boat but if you know how to/have the guts to hunt the open rivers this time of year that is always best.

springhill...are you experienced hunting the rivers?? Or do u have the right boat? I have a 20 ft war eagle 6 ft wide if you want to give it a shot....I store it over in spring hill I have a st joe friend that's real experienced but he can hardly ever take time to get away...

Sounds like you have a good rig for the river. I don't hunt them unless if I can walk in, during cold weather and Ice on the water you better have your poop together if your going to venture out but going with a river rat is best the first few times. Duckhunting USA is a river guy, he might be able to give some insight. We both live over here in Springtown.

I am not known as a river rat but if you use good judgement about what shots to take, you can have a hunt that is safe and productive as well. Somewhere I have a picture of a late season hunt last year on the Kansas River where three of us got limits of greenheads really early.

Just shoot 'em close, drop 'em upriver, and make DARN sure they are DEAD before you send the dog. Don't ever shoot more than you have the ability to easily recover, even if it means only shooting one duck at a time when you're hunting fast and deep water.
