walleye jigs
My brother wants me to tie up some walleye jigs for him. Anybody know what size to use? The biggest I have is 1/8 with a #2 sickle hook.
Do I need to go bigger??

What colors up there are hot. Guess I need to get some bottom bouncers or standup jig heads

Laserdoc, since I pour all my own walleye jigs, I take the following variety when I go to Lake Erie, walleye jig, stand-up with spinner and with out spinner, live bait jig with keeper, and a Lake Erie jig. As far as colors, here again, I like bright fluorescent colors, hot pinks, yellow chartreuse, and blaze orange. Oher subdued colors like green, and pumpkin brown work as well. I told you about the purple hair jig Dave!! If there are that many purple hair jigs bouncing the bottom, may be good to throw something different, think I would do the darker blue/white or maybe green/orange for a perch color... have heard the shad are just not in yet with the low water temps. Just was looking at OGF and they are thinking 2 more weeks before they give up on the reefs and start trolling and drifting bottom bouncers.

Ok guess I will run to bass pro tomorrow and see if they have any 5/8 oz jigs. Should I look for the ones that are used on the bottom and standup. He is going in about 2 weeks. Will they still be feeding off the bottom or will trolling for them have started in a few weeks

Jig weight is going to depend on the depths which are fished, and if there is current. Most the jigs I use are 1/4-3/8oz.
Line weight / diameter is also a factor....ie 6# mono vs braid - got burned a couple years ago - couldn't get my 1/4oz jigs down (fishing a river) in 20-25 fow w/ Power Pro - while another guy in our party had no problem w/ 6# mono.
I generally carry ball, bladeless standup and live bait jigs, looking at other options for this season....
