    better to tie of a jig off on the rear end or near the head? And why?

    depends on the pattern that you're tying... for the most part on crappie jigs you're gonna tie off near the head cause you lay down the tail material first, then the body and finish off at the head.

    At the head, I also prefer a whip finisher. I think it is important because if the tie off is low on the jig, like a fly, the fish can thrash the tie off and the tie will come undone much easier.
    I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

    i agree but however ti does depend on the pattern being tied. i have tied off at the hook end but they dont last as long
