I thought everyone started with the woolly worm and woolly bugger. Guess not. I tied them to learn the in and outs of tying. I wonder if I can find them still. all flies but I caught a ton of trout on them, I would bet almost literally, a ton.
One tip on the hackle, if you notice that the feather doesn't seem to stand up and out very well you can always tie them in from the tip of the feather and wrap them that way instead of the the but end. I do both depending on what look I want now but had to experiment to find what worked best.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
