It is not Fishair. That I know for sure. I took the jig into a local fly shop and checked against the Fishair and the other materials. Fishair is close, but far too stiff.
The best suggestions so far have been the nylon rope and the hair from a doll.
The rope is close. Kind of a pain to unravel it and it's still a pretty heavy fiber compared to what is on the jig.
That brings us to the doll.... I kicked around the idea of buying a doll but decided against it. I hit the craft stores in town, knowing that they sell stuff for making dolls.
No luck. But I did find a place on the internet that sells the doll hair in a bunch of different lengths and about 100 different colors. I ordered a hank of hair last night.
I will let you all know how well this matches what is on the jig when it arrives.
Next up is finding a jighead that matches or is at least close.
I'd love to be able to dupe these jigs. At a buck a piece (even higher if you order direct from Lindy) it's worth it to source the materials and make my own.
