It is a special ceramic/polyurethane, (not sure which one) material that is made so it has thousands of micro pours in it so air can go through and powder can not. I have seen the material for sale by itself but it is by far the most expensive part of a fluid bed.

I don't know of any way to make your own.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

Plus is only come in sheets (don't know how big) however TJ's is very reasonable and if you don't want to pay that I suggest you just do the coffee filter thing others do with home made units.

Try buying them from the makers of the paint at something about $13-$15 ea.

Not sure what TJ is using now for the membrane. If you look in Mcmaster Carr catalog (also have a web site) they have micro-mesh screen. About a 3 micron pore size is probably what you want - a lot depends on the type paint you are using and the density.

PM your snail mail - can hook you up with some left overs.

    supergooser,
Here is a similar material. Very exspensive. I have asked for samples and no response. Benjamins' cups at TJ'S Tackle are a very good deal.
