Default Large Hook Fly Tying Vise

I'm looking for a fly tying vise that will hold a # 12 -7/0 hook. I was thinking the Odyssey Spider Vise, but then I saw it only goes up to 4/0 hooks. Will this vise hold bigger hooks? I'm looking for something like it in the $100- $125 range or less. BTW what is a bobbin holder? Any help would be appreciated.............Thanks

The bobbin cradle holds the thread out away form the hook so you can use the rotary function to wrap body materials and feathers.

As for the hook size, a 7/0 should fit in the Spider if it is not a heavy gauge hook.

According to everything I could find on the Terra rotating vise it will take any size hook as well.

I am curious though, what do you tie at 7/0?

Both are under $100, Terra for $50 delivered and Spider for $75-90

I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

I use a Apex made by Anvil for the 7/0 and 8/0 hooks,it holds them great even with 5 ozs of lead attached to them.Have tied with it for about six years and enjoy it.I think it ran about 100.00 when I got mine.

I know this may be a little more than you want to spend, but check out the dynaking vises, they have one called the kingfisher I believe that may suit you. all of their models rotate and the regular jaws have two holes in them. these are grooves that go down thru the jaws from top to bottom. If you put a 7/0 hook in the back groove, you can bend the hook in a circle without slipping. the very front of the same jaws has a textured inner surface for size 12's etc. I spent 260.00 on a voyager 2 but could have got everything I needed with the kingfisher.

also, HMH makes their vises available with magnum jaws that are made for what you want. I have heard good things about those vises. they have a vise called a spartan I believe that is a little cheaper but still high quality.

As far as what I'm tying, it will be 3 and 4 oz jigs for saltwater fishing with deer hair.

Thanks for all the replies guys very much appreciated. Now I have some idea on what I need to get.
