Default My First Jig... it's FUGLY!

    Hey guys -
just joined here recently and just tied my first jig today.
I wanted to post a picture of this 'disaster' so other first-timers will not feel so bad!

In the 10 or 12 minutes I spent on this, I learned a great deal.
Experience really is the best teacher.
I learned what NOT to do the next time.
At the last minute, I decided to try a cross-hatch over the chenile
body with the black thread, and totally blew it.

    Bucktail hairs too long?
Chenile body too long and too slim?

Will tie a couple more tomorrow, hopefully better.
There are many good tips on this board, and I welcome your critiques.

    Tight Lines...

Very good first attempt. I bet it will catch fish!

Check out this guy on Youtube. He currently has 181 tying videos. He mostly ties flies, not jigs, but you can still learn a lot watching him:

    Good luck and keep practicing!

The think will still catch fish! Yes, the chenille should be thicker and uniform from front to back. It is the right length. The hair should be about half that length ending about where the knurled part of the vise is.
Great start. My first one made me vomit.

    Yes, I am addicted now . . .
    thanks for the replies.
As FUGLY as this thing is, I am going to try it anyway.
Who knows? There might be a fish out there with absolutely
no taste and no scruples, and just might chomp on it!

Then again, it might scare-away every fish within 100 yards...

Not bad for the first time. Personally I like a tapered body with a good cover over the tail tie in.

I agree that should catch fish.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
