    Default mold question

anyone know of a mold that will put a 1/8 and 1/4 head on a #4 hook....looked all through the do-do it site and couldn't find any that would accept that size hook. I guess i could use a #2 if i had to, but really like using the #4's.

I don't know of any offhand.

I don't know if you know of this or not, and Do-It doesn't make this too well known.... But their molds will generally go up or down a hook size other than what is stamped on the mold. So for example if the mold says that it takes a #4 hook, you can also use a #6 or a #2 hook in that cavity without any problems (or very few).

Other than that you may be looking at modifying a mold. Might just need to remove some of the face of the mold to accept the shorter bend in the hook if the diameter of the different size hooks isn't too far off. All the way up to doing that plus filling in the hook slot to accept a thinner diameter hook.

that's good to know. They do have one advertised to take a #2 so i guess it would work. If not we've got a machine shop up at work...i'm sure i could make any modifications i needed to.

    Falco,
I pour a lot of #4 in do-its 1/8 and 3/32 molds with no issues. Which mold you interested and I can tell you if you can. I know the folks at Do-It and they will answer your questions anytime. Great folks. (319) 984-6055

These molds are modified PRO series 101 (1/8 and 1/4).

LedHed, why did you shorten the shank channel slots?

That's how I got the molds when I bought that collection. These are the ones I was telling you about when you got the 1/32. When I get the list going you and cman have first crack. Not sure why the channel slots were shortened - looks like the hook will fit anyway.

Most any mold will use any hook you want to put in it. I make 1/4 oz jig heads with #4 hooks regularly with no modifications. I don't know who comes up with the recommended sizes but they are always much larger than what most of us use.

I use my Dremel to alter the hook sizes in my Do-It molds. Alittle GENTLE grinding allows you to change hooks readily. I use a 2/0 hook in the 1/16 ounce aspirin head to 3 and 5 inch curly tails for smallies. I can use the same mold with a #4 for crappie jigs.
