Also new to all of this so I to am waiting for the answer. But I would think the eyes really don't matter and it would be more of the action of the tail

"Rookie" question for you Crappie veterans- I'm trying to tie up some crappie jigs and was wondering- How important are the EYE's on the jig head ? Do they really improve your catch ratio ? , also what IS in your opinion the most important part of the jig ? The tail because of the movement, body flash, head size and eye's ? ....Thanx for your input.

Ok first of all you're gonna get lots of yes and no's, some people swear by them and some could care less. I have some I put stick on eyes on and I've never noticed a higher ratio catch between eyes vs. no eyes.
All the parts of your jigs work together, there's so many different materials for tails and bodies it makes you wonder sometimes. I like my jigs to look good be porportioned well good action based on the materials I use etc.
When you learn your materials and how they react in the water you'll tie a little different IMO.

In my experience, eyes on a jig is like a pretty face on a woman.
Lol-Good feed back guy's...keep it coming.

A minnow needs eyes just be fair to the fish you are imitating and maybe getting to congregate around your jig to bring in more fish! Might be more important to the other minnows to see one with eyes so they don't think it has been half eaten already.
Most bait we imitate here don't have eyes that are noticeable. Leeches, aquatic works, fresh water shrimp, etc so eyes really don't make sense.
A splash of color on a jig that shows where the fish needs to strike makes sense too. I would wonder if simply making a black jig head with a couple spots or red or green would work better than "eyes". Or maybe a line of color all the way around the head to serve as gills or something similar and would be viewable from all angles that the fish might come from.
If I had a lake that I could count on getting a lot of panfish that wasn't 100 miles away I would test it out just to see. That and it would be a good excuse to go fishing.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
Well I'll tell you quite awhile back some one else ask the same question right now I'm runnig a 4 month test with jigs of the same style and color one has a plan head one has a fancy head eyes, and extra colors I fish about 2-3 days a week since october the 1st in 24 trips I have caught 685 crappie right now the plane heads are gettin smoked!
yes-sir thats what I'm doing I'm gonna g for 3 solid days next week I can say they seem to prefer certian colors on different lakes this , is based on water depth- light conditions and clarity , but it is very interresting I'm glad I've got alittletime off to do this I know these colors will change as the fish move in for the spawn!
