Default Proven Sucess or just hype

I wanted to know what you think are proven colors combo's winners, for tied jigs, on actually catching crappie...not fishermen. Sometimes I come up with bizzare colors that look cool to me.....but the fish seem to have a mindset on not eating my psychedelic jig.

Also what colors seem to produce best in different season...cold water - prespawn -spawn - post spawn - warm water - summer - post summer - fall- winter. I know water color, forage, cover and region all come into play.

Seems each year the magazines hype up a new color...chartreuse, acid rain, pumpkin and the latest...Electric Chicken...lol

Bright blue head with white body does good here, along with Black/Chartreuse, Brown/Chartreuse, white/Chartreuse. I catch more fish on them colors than any other.

OK Based on water clarity and depth here are a couple of specials I ran not long ago and each and every one of these I use a lot. I will put more info under each pic.

    Skip

    Clear Water...

Clear water, being you can still see your jig about 3'-4' deep. My favorites on this pic are the Silver/Blue/White; Silver/FL Yellow/LT. Blue & at the bottom the only one with eyes which I feel could have been on both pics of these specials. The all Blue one is finding good success with the guy I originally made them for (have not tried them my self, but will). I feel the others will also preform at a very good rate.

    Stained Water...

This one has the jigs I have probably used more than any. Top Right with FL Red head, I have used this color combo since the mid 70's and started with using Road Runners in that color in 1/32 oz. Top left and the 2 below that have had good catches with them. All the ones in both pics that have the chenille with the crystal in it I have not used because I have not had it long enough, but am sure it will be very good. The ones on the Right are both very good and the one that the body is chart &purple crystal I have used , but not much and they do well. Of course Black/Black/Fl Yellow is good on many days.

Other than these I have customers that are still buying and using the following:
FL Red/Orange&Brown Variegated chenille/Hot Orange; Pink/Pink/Blue; Yellow and Purple; Don't discount all pink either.

There are many more, but these all are very good.

In my opinion with 40 years of bass fishin the more realistic the pattern bait the more success this is most certian in trout fishing down to 1/16" in lenght variance can make or break the day and color has to be there.
