I saw this set on Basspro.com. Do you all think this is a good set to get started with?

Yep, it's a very good place to start. It will provide you with enough materials and information to decide if you want to get into it. Chances are, you will!!! Get it, play with it, then you can look on here at some of the jig tying videos and on YouTube and they will make a lot more sense to you. Good luck and good tying!

Yes, the video alone is worth the price of the kit. Not sure how great that vise is, though.

Also, check out this guy's videos. I stumbed across him a few years ago. His vids are very clear, and you can learn a lot by watching him, even though he's tying flies, not jigs. Here's one on basic tying:

Yes it will, I started with one of those myself.
I suggest you look for a second job and consider a reverse mortgage on your house as well. Once you get started you won't want to stop. Welcome to our addiction.

That is what I started tying with. The materials for tying jigs that are in there will get you started and then you can get more in the colors that you like. You will then begin looking at things around you to see what else you can tie a jig out of. It does get addicting. The video is well worth watching more than once.
