    Default Turkey Feathers

Driving across middle of Minnesota this morning notice all kinds of white feathers on the grass. Stopped and picked some up, really look good for jig making. Put them in my front shirt pocket and they started to stinks more than I could stand. So in a plastic bag they went. Has anyone used them to make jigs?

From your description could they be from a turkey farm??? Truck driving through and maybe they shed some. I'd check for any dirt, clean them up and put in borax to fully dry out.

You can use them for tails, wings anything you can think of.

Great find get as many as you can.

I use alot of turkey feathers in trout flies, but not so much in crappie jigs, but some of my trout streamers have turkey in them, guess you could vary the pattern to make a jig with 'em

I'd lay them flat in some borax for a few days at least so just in case they have any friends on them it doesn't infect your other materials. Better safe than sorry.

You can dry wash the turkey feathers is a zip lock with borax or Tide when you find them. (Hides the smell and gets rid of some contaminates.) Other than that I may take a toothbrush (Old and used) just to brush out some debris before I use the marabou part for tying. The feather part is usually ok if you run it between your thumb and forefinger. You want to cut that area using the "V" cut techniques.
