Some of you fellas post a lot of pictures of jigs on here. Do you guys consider it okay for others to try to copy them? I've seen some mighty nice ones that I'd like to try and although some/most of them are above my skill level, they are something to work toward. I was just wondering if there is such thing as "jig-tying etiquette," and if there is, I just want to make sure I don't offend anyone. I guess you'd never really know if anyone copied your jigs. It's just an integrity issue that crossed my mind.

Yep, copy away, I don't think anyone will mind.
I am honored and thrilled when I see someone try and imitate a jig I tied. Heck, I probably got some of my ideas from Skip, Redear, Len, Fatman, Bob, Oldwun, Keith, Death, Joe, Blackcrow, Smoothe, or possibly a jig tying book or video here on this forum and said I like that color scheme.
The point is that Marabou, Chenille and Hackle have been around for eons. How you put them together is up to you. Someone or some picture had to first inspire you to say "I want to try that. I can do as well or better....."
Visit my website and if something inspires you...go for it.

Okay, sounds good. I didn't think anyone would care. I just wanted to make sure.
Ship, I have been all over that website and that was one reason I was asking. I like those quiver jigs a lot. I like all that color. If I was a crappie, I'd be all over 'em. I'll post some pics of the ones I've tied when my roommate gets back and can show me how to take a picture that is less blurry. It's his camera and he knows how to work it better than I do.
smoothlures, I just saw that you are from Aynor, SC. I did some deer/hog hunting down there a couple years ago with Mr. Johnny Skipper and his son Nathan Skipper. We've lost touch since then, but I had a big time down there. Shot a 225 lb jet black hog.

You can copy any jig of mine but youll have to do allot of painting on the jigheads... Looks like my jigs that we tie up north are quite diff than the ones you southern boys tie.... But like most of these boys on here that tie feel free to copy ...... I do![]()

When I was tying to sell there was another shop in town that sold hand tied jigs as well. We had an unwritten agreement that we wouldn't copy each others "special" colors. Meaning that if he came out with a color combo that was working well I wouldn't start tying the same color. We never had a problem until someone started tying and selling both of our colors.
I think that most tyers don't mind others tying their patterns of colors as long as credit is given where it is due.
Just my 2 cents.
