Well, today was the big day for me to actually give this a shot. I started the day off with a thorough review of the sticky notes at the top of the forum and I watched every youtube video on jig tying yall have put on here.

I decided not to try anything fancy. I was just trying to get it all on the hook without it unraveling. As you can see in the pics, I got a little carried away with the marabou :o, but hey, they all stayed together. The hardest part of all was tying the dern whip finish at the end. Took a little trial and error, but I got it. As far a color selection goes, I just stuck to my favorite colors that I use with regular soft plastic jigs.

I also learned a couple things about myself today that I wasn't planning on:
1 - I am allergic to marabou, all feathers for that matter.
2 - I need a good pair of glasses.
3 - I need more practice at this.

Thanks again for encouraging me on this. Please let me know what you think of my first jigs. I can take criticism fine.

They actually look very nice for a first timer. Have you tied flies or something before? A little less marabou will make them about perfect. Good job.

Also next time you take pictures of jigs that are up close, check and see if your camera has a Macro mode on it, put it on and it'll make it much clearer.

very very nice, and I like those colors. Never had much faith in blue until someone turned me on to kalin 2" triple threat grubs, in the black blue and chartruese combo. I'll never underestimate that color again. That chenille looks like the stuff I use alot of, in the same color,it catches fish too. anyway, you will do well at this hobby, and thats not necessarily too much marabou, just depends on what the fish want. The marabou is pretty fragile stuff, and as you use it, the tail will get sparser and sparser, especially if you get a few bites, so I tend to put plenty on my jigs too. You can pull some out at the last minute, It breaks off easily. The only thing I would do just a little different, not that it matters, is to put one more wrap tite against the jighead, and tie it down with about five wraps, then when you whip finish, just wedge the wraps in between the chenille and the head. If you use chart. thread with chart chenille, and crowd the head with the chenille, and wedge the whip finish out of sight, the chenille will have a nicer transition to the head.I use at least a 3/0 thread, because 6/0 will break alot when whip finishing about seven wraps and pulling tite. monocord 3/0 is real nice stuff.

Nothing wrong with them jigs especially for your first time. Just make sure you pics are sized where the biggest side is 640 pixels and it will be good.

Keep the good work up, but if you are allergic to feathers I hope it doesn't get worse as time passes.

As for seeing well, just get some of the magnifier type that attach's to you head like I use sometime and you will see it very well.

I like the Chartreuse tail / green chenille / black hackle one. That should really load up the boat with some fine eating. Nice job. Again ....remember the principle that less is more........and you will be fine. Size your pictures and take an allergy pill. Have fun tying. you are now officially hooked! I told you it would be fun. Just wait until you catch a fish on something you created.
