I have tried several different variations, and the best looking way that I have found is to cut the lead from the bottom of the jig head. This leaves a flat surface and the tip of the rattle is sticking out even with the end of the jig head. I have been using brass rattles and powder coat them to match the color of the head. I then tie them together and then tie the jig on the head rattle combo. This does not add much weight to the jig, because I have trimmed off some of the lead, and it also gives the jig a very nice profile. I have used these mainly in murky water and they have seemed to work really well. I am not sure if the rattle is helping all that much, but I have caught dozens of crappie with them, and have noticed that I seem to catch more bass now than I used too. I think that the rattle does attract the bass, and I hope that it also attracts more crappie as well.

Rattles do help attract bass however i ve never been convinced by rattling crappie jigs...years back i used some jigs that had stickon bubble eyes with a little lead ball in each eye.........they rattled but i not convinced they increased my catch on perch.
    I PRACTICE CATCH & FRY---DONT EVERYBODY ? Thumbs Up
