    Default Tying Chenille

In looking at the videos I can find and in reading some of the posts concerning this, it seems as though some people start at the rear to tie the chenille in and some start by tying it in at the head then tie back the length of the body and wrap forward. As I read it everyone wraps the chenille forward toward the head but it seems that some start at different places to start or tie in the chenille. Could some of you clarify this? Thanks

    Yellowmattie,

Here is a suggestion. Wrap the starter thread on the hook shank. Add a drop of super glue. Tie in a two tone marabou tail. Add a drop of super glue.Tie in Krystal flash. Double over and add a half hitch knot.

Begin to tie in the chenille or variegated chenille at the end of the tail feathers. (I only prefer my chenille body to be about 1/3 of the entire hook length. Usually about four turns.) Strip off some of the fibers so the inner thread is exposed and wrap that with the tying thread. Then bring the tying thread to the front. Wrap the chenille tightly about four turns to the front. Secure with a half hitch knot. Cut the extra off close to the jig body. Add a drop of super glue. Hang the fly to dry.

What do you mean when you say double over when tying in the krystal flash? Also as I understand and as I saw in the slide show video, you lay the chenille on the hook with one end at the head, tie this in going back to the length you want the body to be, then tie back to the head. Then wrap toward the head and finish. As I see this you end up with the chenille being tied to the hook starting at the head tying back to the length of the body returning the thread to the head before wrapping. You will be wrapping over a full body length of chennile tied under to the hook. Or do you just barely tie in the end of the chenille back away from the head, tie thread up to jig head, then wrap. With this method you would only be wrapping the chenille over a small part of the chenille that you tied in and not a full body length of chenille. Thanks

Answer: Take three strands of Krystal flash and fold it in half. Now lay that on your hook just so the tail end meets the tail end of the marabou you have already on the hook. Use your tying thread and wrap three or four turns in the center of your Krystal flash. Be sure you end up at the same starting poing. Now fold the Krystal flash over. You should now have six strands sticking out the end instead of three. Tie this down with your tying thread.

Move your tying thread to the point where you want ti tie in your chenille.
