You only need one piece of chenille unless you are tying a double color body and it's not variegated chenille. If you tie 1/8 or 1/4 you need to double wrap the chenille to make a good body.
I use a whip finish so probably could get away with out glue, but I put one drop of thinned head cement right where I do the finish.
I use to buy head cement, but now I make my own out of Lacquer and MEK thinner. A Qt. of Lacquer will last a very long time. Make sure it's Clear Lacquer if you go that way. After all head cement is just Lacquer in a small bottle as is nail polish.
