    Default jig question

Thanks, how long should tail be past the bend. What does a jig represent. A bug or a baitfish or what.

Welcome from Alabama. I would advise you that "Sparse is better" when tying. You really want to give the appearance of a baitfish profile but not hamper the ability to set the hook. Most of the jigs I tie for myself will only have the Marabou or kip extend past the hook about 1/4 inch. You want those "Short strikers" to bite the hook metal instead of feathers.

    Just my four cents worth.

    Default shorter is better

The jigs I'll allready tyied can I cut the tail shoter now. Then I have tyied some without heads and put them in some water and the tails stand up. Question is how do I get them to set more level in the water. Could I add a small bb at start of bend.

    Default The Palamor Knot

To set them level in the water, you should tie the jig with a PALOMAR KNOT. The only thing connecting you to a fish you hook is your line, so choosing a good one is important. Just as important is the only thing that keeps your line connected to the hook holding the fish, your knot. No matter how good your line is, a bad knot will lose fish for you. Poorly tied knots have probably lost more fish than any other one factor, except maybe frayed line. Learn to tie a good knot such as the Palamor and others.

The PALOMAR KNOT - For Joining Line To A Fish Hook

The Palomar Knot is easy to tie correctly, and consistently the strongest knot known to hold terminal tackle.

    1. Double about 4" of line and pass the loop through the eye of fishing hook OR JIGHEAD EYE.

    2. Let the fishing hook hang loose, and tie an overhand knot in the doubled line.

Avoid twisting the lines and do NOT tighten the knot.

    3. Pull the loop end of the line far enough to pass it over the hook, JIG, swivel or lure.

Make sure the loop passes completely over the attachment.

    4. Pull both the tag end and the standing line until the knot is tightened. Clip off the tag end of the fishing line
