    Default Jigheads

I have a (very) limited experience tying my own jigs, but have come to realize that it's kinda fun. I actually created a jig that caught some fish the other day. I don't have a digital camera, but the jig has a tail of two white saddle hackles, some silver Krystal Flash, and silver tinsel chenille body, on a 1/16 white walmart jighead. I wanted to make something that resembled a shad. I don't know if that's what the crappie thought it was, but it ended up their mouths!

The reason I posted: Where would be the best place to buy/order no-collar painted jig-heads? When using regular old collared jig-heads, you're kind of forced to have that huge body directly behind the head. I think Cabela's calls a collarless jig-head a "live bait" jig.

Would Cabela's be a good place to order? What would you all suggest?

    Thanks.

The live bait jigs have a smaller shank so they are no good. Barlows, Janns, Stamina, ebay are all good places to look.

Cabelas live bait jig heads are a collarless jighead and work very well for tying your own jig.

PM Grousefly on this forum. He makes some nice jigheads. I have also ordered from Jann's Netcraft with good results.

    Default jig heads

i tie a clouser type jig.i make the head our of stainless steel bead chain. i separate the beads in pairs using dikes,i also remove the links,as they tend to pick up grass.
for weight i use led wire from >010 to .035 dia this works great for me and does not require pouring heads.
i use to pour my heads but have moved to lead wire and no longer do so,has anyone here tried led wire.

I've used lead wire to tie a minnow head fly, use needle nose pliers to flatten and shape ,over tie with floss or thread, color eyes, giills etc with sharpies, coat with Sally Hanson nail polish.
