What kind of tier are you?

I like it best when I dream up something or tie a jig based on a fly, I guess just trying to be creative and also useful at the same time.

I have two jigs that are used a lot and when I tie them I will typically do a dozen or so. But I'm a dreamer type of person who typically will do a few of these then a few of this idea. Never been a full out production tier. It is my hobby and I prefer to keep it fun and interesting.

Y’all are making me feel good right about now. I’d been thinking I was manifesting my OCD or something cuz I set down to tie 6 of a style that just knocked em out and I’ll get two jigs in and the gremlins get in my thoughts and the changes begin. I too, like grumpy said, have a few that work extra well that are always in the box. Those are called my standard’s and while they may vary, it’s not by much. The gray ghost is one. Then there’s the idea jigs that pop into your head and won’t leave you alone til you drag out half of what you own to give it a try. I keep a razor blade handy for when the wheels come off. One thing that usually works without trying is to tie the standards in different sizes before getting off track.

I've got a couple patterns, some universal, some lake specific, others water color/recent weather specific that I make sure I have on hand. Other than that, I'll tie 2-3 of a given pattern, try them, and go from there.

I am glad too see that they are others out there like me, I usually only tie 1 of a color, to see if the fish like it. I usually only tie to shoot docks, or to jig with.

Have you tried the estate style chenille for the bodies? When shooting docks I always looked for a slow descent to give em a chance to get to it before it fell away from the zone. Doesn’t skip for beans but it falls much slower.

I have never heard of estate chenille, is it big bodied, so it will sink slower, or can you get it in small stuff, I need to do some research on it.

skeetbum did you mean estaz chenille. I can see where that would fall much slower because of the material it’s made of and the bulk of it, thank you sir, will give that a try.

Great idea to slow the fall of a jig. When I want to slow the fall of a jig I add a hackle collar, or even rubber legs. Everybody loves those wiggly legs.

Danny, I always tied 2 or 3 and left one for reference at the tying table. My memory is not as good as it once was. LOL
