Personally I believe at times paint color can help, but for the most part I paint for looks and to keep the lead from oxidizing so even if I don't paint them I coat them with Sally's Hard as Nails or something like that. This will not hold up when fishing them, but probably will until they are used?
I keep bringing up the Gray Ghost for several reasons and here is another reason to use it. That jig had an unpainted head and V's for the tail, no tip and Gray Chenille, with a very small hook, that's it! Oh and almost forgot, no eyes either!
Even though it's not dressed to kill, kill is does anyway!
