Subpart J—Feathers or Skins

§ 20.91Commercial use of feathers.
Any person may possess, purchase, sell, barter, or transport for the making of fishing flies, bed pillows, and mattresses,
and for similar commercial uses the feathers of migratory waterfowl (ducks, geese, brant, and swans) killed by hunting pursuant to
this part, or seized and condemned by Federal or State game authorities, except that:

(a) No person shall purchase, sell, barter, or offer to purchase, sell, or barter for millinery or
ornamental use the feathers of migratory game birds taken under authority of this part; and

(b) No person shall purchase, sell, barter, or offer to purchase, sell, or barter mounted specimens
of migratory game birds taken under authority of this part.

Fatman my intention was not to stir up poop, but to inform people on this site the dangers of not knowing. I like many here started out as a hobby became creative and have the vision of ....oh I can do this for a living and live happily ever after, soon after that reality sets in and....the Federal excise tax division show up at your front door and want to see your PayPal account. Don't think this it won't happen because it did to me...I made 3000.00 and some change and they wanted their part! I did my taxes correctly and had paid my excise taxes fortunately but they still found 134.00 I couldn't account for. Found out later the Obama administration ordered these investigations to small businesses in the fishing industry . This was all due to people telling me...you need to trade mark your logo someone might steal it that put me on the radar! Again this is a great site with great people and helped my quality of tying , I have no intention of being the flank police! My apologies LB

I have that as a word document and I copy paste it! LOL If it wasn't for a bunch of the duck hunters here and other boards I wouldn't have any! and I truly appreciate it!! Looking things up in the Code of Federal Regulations isn't fun

The trade mark thing I've heard about - I make a lot of jigs but I don't sell just isn't worth the hassle, just as easy to trade for what you don't have.
