I reread your comments again this morn and I get it now. You leave the tips off because you feel the stem allows less movement in the hair and that makes perfect sense to me now.
Here's what i did on some jigs, as crazy as it may be.
I got a whole marabou feather , tie in the last little bit for the jig tail, then wrap the rest of the feather up towards the eye of the hook, come back and whip it down with the thread and go back towards the hook bend with the thread. Then I come in with chenille and wrap that up to the eye.
My point in all this is to beef up the body of the jig. My chenille never looks full enough to me unless I do something like that. I guess I could go over and over it with chenille to thicken it.
