    Default When To Use Marabou?

It appears that the saltwater hackle is the most commonly used jig tail material. When if ever do you use marabou instead?

I'd say to use marabou whenever plastics quit working and just before you resort to live bait. lol

It's for when ever you want it. One of the best materials out there and if you want to be the very best action, you pull the barbules off the stem to bunch up and tie in as a tail. Always cut the end you pulled from the stem and once you have it pinched where you want to tie it in, cut off the rest to make a nice even end to tie in.

Almost forgot to say I use it like 98% of the time in spring because I am using my little Roadrunners, but use both hackle and marabou after that. Kind of what ever hits my fancy. One other little note, marabou will not last as long as hackle on a jig.

I sometimes get confused on this site when guys call a jig a marabou jig or a hair jig.
Where I come from a marabou jig is all marabou. and a hair jig is all hair like a Bucktail.
When you just tlk about marabou or hair it seem you all are only talking about tail material. Goofs me all up.
But since you asked I oh fish marabou tail jigs. My other jigs I tie are straight hair/kip tail. Basically mini Bucktail jig.

I use a wide variety of materials when I'm making jigs but the most effective material is MARABOU ever since I started tying jigs in the late 50s in till now that it has been my favorite material.

Marabou here as well. Haven't even gotten into the hackle game yet.
