Thin wire hooks

I currently use Eagle Claw 570 #2 hooks. Is there any hook MFG that's thinner wire? I went Saturday & broke off a bunch of jigs.

Eagle Claw Classic SPECIAL BRONZE 1350 - they're a custom made hook. Check with Simmons Sporting Goods in Bessemer,Al. 205-426-0490. Last time I checked they were about $10 a hundred

mustad has the crappie lites in sizes 4 and 2, 32889 I think is the model number, I really like these hooks but like skip said you have to support the hook when tying so they don't flex so much, I do this by holding the jig just behind where I am wrapping with my left hand. but I have a customer that spider rigs and catches plenty of crappie and he loves these hooks so far, he uses the size 4 on a 1/16 hair jig with a minnow tipped on there too. I made up dozen jigs for him and he used one of them till the hook broke, but he said he caught a lot of fish on that jig and hung it several times and got it back. they say the eagle claw version is even thinner wire but they are expensive Iv'e heard and one place has a monopoly on them, so they can charge what they want. not so with the mustad.

I tried them last year and did not like them. Yes they might straighten out so that you can get your jig back when you get hung up, but it seems like they get super easy to bend after that. The hook pretty much becomes like a wet noodle when you try to use it again after getting it unstuck from a snag. Had the hook straighten out on me several times while trying to land some nice crappies.

Thanks everyone. I was afraid of what bugtussle said. I will just stick to the old 570's . I would hate to loose the 3 lb fish I been hunting for 20 + years.

I didn't mention it, but when I first got some I had a customer that I had moved to Sickle hooks a couple years before so seemed like a good place to get feedback since I know him well and he's local. At the time I gave him a few to try he said you know since I started using your Sickle hooks I have not lost a fish? Anyway I gave him a couple tied in his colors to try and next time he came by I ask him about the jigs and he started shaking his head and then said I don't like them at all! I ask what was wrong and he told me that he tried living 2 big fish over the side and both came off, LOL! SO can't say everyone has the same thing happen, but I didn't want to hear that again so they sit here on my shelf. I also didn't like having to hold the shank to tie them just to keep them from bending. Also though I am a heavy handed tier!

I'm with ya Skip. They do straighten out of snags, but the strength has been compromised a bunch. I've lost to many nice fish and don't use them at all.
